ShapeSculptor - Creating Complex Custom Shapes for MacroPacSometimes the standard shapes in MacroPac (spheres, cubes, rods, plates and trapezoids) might not cover the particular structure that you want. And sometimes, for complex custom shapes, the existing ShapeBuilder is not easy to use. So now we have introduced ShapeSculptor to complement ShapeBuilder's capabilities. ShapeSculptor lets you create your custom shapes in a different way, either by building a structure by adding spheres on a lattice grid of points, or else by 'sculpting' the shape by removing spheres from a block. With a range of possible lattices (face- and body-centred cubic, hexagonal, or hexagonal close packed) the ShapeSculptor is both flexible and easy to use. To save time in the MacroPac simulation, when the final shape is saved, it can be simplified by checking whether one large sphere can replace a number of smaller ones.
The ShapeSculptor complements MacroPac's existing ShapeBuilder functionality. For shapes that are made up of relatively few spheres, especially when the spheres are different sizes, then ShapeBuilder could be the better tool to use. But when your shape is complicated, the ShapeSculptor can help you to build it in the minimum time and with a better approximation to the actual shape.
Intelligensys can also use the ShapeSculptor to provide you with a library of custom shapes, pre-built to your requirements. If this is of interest, then contact us to discuss your needs.
