Intelligensys - Formulating Knowledge Developing Better Products Faster September 2008 Newsletter |
|
In this issue, we focus on some of the applications of our "intelligent" software, and also introduce the new enhanced faster version of our particle packing program, MacroPac. New Powerstart dates for the rest of 2008 have been finalized, and new publications using our software are available. Users' Success with Neural Computing One of the most interesting projects we've recently come across is the work of Marcel de Matas and co-workers at Bradford's Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation, on in vitro in vivo correlations for inhalation of drugs. These correlations have the potential to reduce significantly the number of in vivo tests needed in drug development. Delivery from both nebulizers and dry powder inhalers has been studied, using demographic and physiological inputs to the model, as well as characteristics, such as particle size, of the materials. Neural networks have proved much more successful - and easier to use - than statistical treatments, because of the complexity of the relationships. Read more here. Professor Dang Van Giap and his group at the University of Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, also report success with the software, with studies on tablet formulation and on process optimization. In his conclusions, he says "The cause-effect relationships given by FormRules can give helpful hints for the multivariate optimization performed by INForm". The new release this quarter is for MacroPac, our particle packing software. The main enhancement is a substantial speed boost, using a new proprietary algorithm. This enables larger and more realistic simulations to be undertaken especially for cases where there is a significant size difference for the particles - we have recorded speed-up of between 10 and 100 times in our trial runs. Read more about what's improved with MacroPac here. PowerStart to get you up to speed, fast PowerStart is a great way to get new users up to speed or simply to try out our products. PowerStart combines start-up training and a 2-month software licence to let you experience easily the benefits of our technology. For more information on the current dates for the PowerStart training/evaluation bundle, see here . If you are interested, but the dates are inconvenient, keep an eye on future Newsletters for dates for courses later in the year. Or contact us to arrange a 'bespoke' course for you and your company. Publications Update and Company News The publications page, showing peer-reviewed papers using INForm and FormRules, has been updated with recent studies by our academic collaborators. Mr Ikeda from Higuchu Inc, our Japanese distributors, spent a couple of days with us earlier this year, getting in-depth training and experience with our software. Intelligensys will be participating in a workshop on Establishing an Expert System in Product Stability, to be held at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation at University of Bradford, in October. The day will be coordinated by our Chief Scientist, Professor Ray Rowe, who has first-hand experience of leading the implementation of global R&D and manufacturing expert systems in pharmaceutical formulation within AstraZeneca. And Intelligensys has recently joined Yorkshire Chemical Focus, a regional group devoted to the needs of the chemical industry. |
