Intelligensys - Formulating Knowledge

Developing Better Products Faster

April 2008 Newsletter

This newsletter's main focus is on data mining. We also update you on our contract modelling services and recent software updates, so please read on to find out more!

If you are at the Future Formulation event organized by the Chemical Innovation Knowledge Transfer Network, May 20th at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, please come and meet us at our exhibition stand and find out what we can do for you. And for an update on the papers and posters produced using our technologies, check out www.formulatingknowledge.com.

Data Mining in AstraZeneca

AstraZeneca have been getting real value from the FormRules data mining program. Scientists at their Wilmington, DE labs presented a poster at the AAPS meeting in 2007, on "Application of Neurofuzzy Logic and Parallel Coordinates Techniques in Pan Coating Process Data Analysis". You can see a copy of their poster here.

And in the UK, AstraZeneca's scientists at Macclesfield have also used FormRules, in this case to analyze formulation process optimization data for an immediate release tablet and to obtain cause and effect relationships that highlight which variables are most important.

AstraZeneca Macclesfield have also been using both INForm and FormRules to analyze data for polymorph screening, with great success. A paper is in preparation - watch this space for further details.

Contract Modelling and Consultancy

If you have only an intermittent need for modelling, our contract modelling service might just be the answer you are looking for. The service is fast and it's confidential. And a fixed maximum cost is agreed upfront to help you plan your budget.

A typical project using our artificial intelligence technologies has three stages.

First, you provide us with your data set, and we check out the cause-and-effect relationships it contains. This is essential to ensure that all the right variables are being measured, and that good reliable models can be obtained. If things are looking good, we proceed to step 2.

At this stage, we produce the models and/or rules that you require. To make sure that the results address your specific questions, this is done in discussion with your own scientists.

Then, we deliver the results to you. This can be in the form of a report, or involve a consultancy visit. However, we have now introduced an exciting new option - we can deliver the models as part of a 'Consult-only' version of INForm. This enables you to carry out your own what-if predictions and optimizations, on your own computers, whenever you want. So, all of the advantages of having the models to use, without needing the know-how to produce them!

And of course if you are interested in simulations using MacroPac and DryAdd, we can do those on a contract research basis too.

Want to get up to speed easily? New PowerStart Dates

PowerStart is a great way to get new users up to speed or simply to try out our products. PowerStart combines start-up training and a 2-month software licence to let you experience easily the benefits of our technology. For more information on the current dates for the PowerStart training/evaluation bundle, see here . If you are interested, but the dates are inconvenient, keep an eye on future Newsletters for dates for courses later in the year. Or contact us to arrange a 'bespoke' course for you and your company.

New Software Releases

Early versions of INForm and FormRules won't run on Windows Vista, so improved Vista-ready versions of FormRules and INForm were shipped in the last quarter of 2007. Find out here what's new for INForm, especially all the new optimization features in v3.6.

Our particle packing program, MacroPac, has also been substantially improved - read about the major changes here. And DryAdd, the polymerization and cross-linking simulation package, has also been updated with a new wizard-driven interface that makes it much easier to use - more details can be found here. We've also updated the page of publications (including patents) that used DryAdd.

Upgrades are shipped free to customers on maintenance agreements. To find out more about our maintenance contracts, have a look here. Not on a maintenance contract? Not a problem - we can give you a quote to upgrade to the latest version.
