Intelligensys - Formulating Knowledge

Developing Better Products Faster

February 2009 Newsletter

This issue highlights our recent applications of intelligent software in Personal Care. And we introduce the new Visual Explorer in the latest release of INForm, which allows you to investigate response surfaces interactively and so understand them in more depth.

As usual, we've updated our Publications page, listing peer-reviewed work done with our software. And new dates for our PowerStart package are available.

Data Mining and Modeling for Personal Care

Using data sets from the literature, we have made new application notes for INForm and FormRules, for shampoo foam height and for liquid soap viscosity respectively. Check here for the data mining notes using FormRules, and here for the optimizations with INForm.

Recently, Liz Colbourn gave a presentation to the Yorkshire Chemical Focus Personal Care Programme. To be sent a link to the presentation, please contact us. You'll need to view it with Internet Explorer - our tests show that Firefox doesn't display it correctly.

Interactive Exploration of Response Surfaces

Response surfaces involve plotting a property against two input (ingredient or process condition) values. But for anything but simple cases, there are more than two inputs. The response surface that is displayed can depend - sometimes quite substantially - on the 'hidden' variables. Now, INForm has a Visual Explorer which allows you to pick one of the hidden variables, and to change it using a slider bar. The response surface plot is updated interactively as you slide the bar. So now it is possible to see whether a hidden variable has a minimal effect on the surface, or a significant one. You can see a brief movie by looking here.

INForm 3.7, incorporating this new feature, has now been shipped to maintained customers. Find out about the other new features in this release here.

PowerStart to get you up to speed, fast

PowerStart is a great way to get new users up to speed or simply to try out our products. PowerStart combines start-up training and a 2-month software licence to let you experience easily the benefits of our technology. For more information on the current dates for the PowerStart training/evaluation bundle, see here . If you are interested, but the dates are inconvenient, keep an eye on future Newsletters for dates for courses later in the year. Or contact us to arrange a 'bespoke' course for you and your company.

Publications Update and Company News

The publications page, showing peer-reviewed papers reporting work done with our software, has been updated with recent studies by our academic collaborators.

We congratulate Ahmed Ali on completing his PhD Thesis at the University of Bradford, on "Computer Aided Design and Processing of Encapsulated Pellets". This study used MacroPac, INForm and FormRules, and several papers are in preparation - we'll bring you full details in future newsletters, but meanwhile you can view the abstract here.

The www.formulatingknowledge.com web site has a new look - check it out! And we've made the sign-up for this newsletter easier both at www.intelligensys.co.uk and www.formulatingknowledge.com.
